Director of Digital

Paul graduated from the University of Wales, Lampeter in 1995 with a degree in Informatics and joined Carmarthen & District NHS Trust immediately afterwards and has spent all his career to date working within a variety of Digital roles in NHS Wales.

Paul’s first role was undertaking training to a wide variety of staff on digital systems and then moved into a development role providing Information to a range of stakeholders and creating custom programmes to support data quality and integration making sure data was shared between clinical systems.  Paul helped lead the response to the Year 2000 and was involved in the early versions of the local Patient Administration System which is now deployed across all organisations in NHS Wales. 

Appointed as Head of ICT for the newly formed Hywel Dda University Health Board in 2008 Paul led the technical consolidation of its ICT infrastructure and supported Digital Health & Care Wales with the national digital strategy for NHS Wales chairing several national groups and supporting several national procurements.

As Head of ICT Paul led several digital elements in response to the COVID-19 pandemic including ensuring the field hospitals were operational and the deployment of Microsoft Office 365.

Appointed as Director of Digital for Aneurin Bevan University Health Board in June 2023 Paul is looking forward to ensuring the organisation makes the best use of digital technology to support and transform the delivery of patient care across the Gwent region.
