Vice Chair

Will Smart is an experienced non-executive director with over thirty years in senior roles across the NHS, central government and the commercial sector.

He has held chief officer and executive positions in major NHS provider organisations and national bodies, leading large teams, major programmes and substantial budgets, and has worked extensively with ministers, arm’s-length bodies, regulators and partners to improve services and outcomes for patients and communities.

His commercial background includes senior roles in global healthcare, technology and consultancy businesses, with responsibility for business development, P&L performance, international market growth and long-term strategic partnerships with health and care organisations.

As Vice Chair of Aneurin Bevan University Health Board, he brings broad leadership and commercial experience, strong board and committee skills, and a commitment to working with colleagues, partners and local communities to improve health, reduce inequalities and ensure high-quality, sustainable services across Gwent.
