Weight Management Services for adults

We offer a range of services for adults in the Aneurin Bevan Health Board area who would like support with losing weight. These services will provide you with the knowledge, tools and support you need for successful, sustainable weight loss with a focus on promoting health and wellbeing.

During the pandemic some of our services will be delivered remotely by telephone or video link. More details about the services provided and how you can refer yourself can be found below.

Children under 16 years can be referred to 'Connect' Child and Young Person Weight Management Service.

 

How to access support to lose weight

A doctor or health care professional can refer you or you can refer yourself. You can do this by either filling out an online referral form or by telephone, where a member of our team will complete the form with you.

 

Fill in our online form

The easiest way to refer yourself to the Adult Weight Management Service or Foodwise is to fill in our online referral form. You will need to know your height, current weight and have a list of your current medication. The form should only take 5-10 minutes to complete. On the last page you will need to click ‘submit’.

 

Telephone

The fastest way to refer yourself is by using our online form, but if you are unable to do that, then you can refer yourself by telephone. The call will take around 20-30 minutes and a member of our team will ask you questions about you and your weight. You will need to know your height, current weight and have a list of your current medication. Please call us on 01633 431 776 on Tuesdays or Thursdays between 09:00am and 12:30pm to refer by telephone.
 

 

The Adult Weight Management Service 

Our service is getting back to normal, however for now we are only providing our support with video calls, virtual groups and telephone calls. We are not offering face-to-face appointments for your safety and ours. Our team includes Dietitians, Dietetic Support Workers, Clinical Psychologists, Counsellors and Doctors.  We run a range of groups and individual appointments to support people along their weight loss journey. Our level 3 MDT (Multi-disciplinary team) service has now re-started.


 

 

Foodwise for Life

Would you like to learn more about a healthy way to lose weight?

‘Foodwise for Life’ is an eight week programme which uses evidence based approaches to help people manage their weight. The programme is written by Public Health Dietitians in Wales (PHDiW). The programme is a healthy lifestyle programme intended for anyone with a Body Mass Index (BMI) above 25kg/m.2

Foodwise for Life – Fun and friendly Sessions which cover a range of useful topics to support and encourage you.

  • Portion sizes
  • Moving more
  • Dealing with hunger and cravings
  • Food labels
  • Overcoming barriers
  • Swap it don’t stop it

The course involves eight, 1½ hour sessions over eight weeks. Available via an online version that is accessible via any internet connected device.
