Everyone in Gwent should be able to live free from the fear of violence and abuse

Today, the UK Secretary of State committed to increasing Public Health Approaches in tackling violence against women and girls, including its ambition to halve violence against women and girls within a decade, reinforces the importance of action at every level.

We are proud to support the launch of the new Gwent Violence Against Women, Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence Joint Strategic Needs Assessment.

Led by the Gwent Public Health Team, and developed with partners and communities across Gwent, the assessment brings together data, evidence and lived experience to help us understand need, inequalities and where we can strengthen prevention and support.

Prof Tracy Daszkiewicz, Director of Public Health for Gwent, said:

“This assessment gives us a stronger shared understanding of violence and abuse across Gwent. Most importantly, it provides an evidence base to help us turn what we know into action – strengthening prevention, improving support and tackling the inequalities that contribute to harm.”

This is partnership working at its best – bringing together health, local government, policing, the third sector and communities to help make Gwent safer for everyone.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this important work”.
