Based at the Royal Gwent Hospital, the team provide Clinical Photography, Ophthalmic imaging, Graphics and Video services to the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board. With the support of satellite studios at Nevill Hall Hospital, Ysbyty Aneurin Bevan and GP Surgeries services are expanded to bring patient care closer to home.
All work is undertaken by qualified and AHCS registered Clinical Photographers.
Clinical photography is used to illustrate patients’ conditions and can be taken for medical records, teaching, clinical trials and publication. Photography is preferably undertaken in the studio however the photographers can visit patients in clinical areas when it is not possible.
Clinical Photography has become an integral part within the Dermatology patient care pathway by providing a Teledermatology service. Patients are appointed from GP referral for diagnostic images to be taken. Dermatologists report on the images and the patients are triaged accordingly.
The Clinical Photographer will call you into the studio, explain the purpose of the appointment and what will happen. They will also obtain consent for photographs to be taken and stored in your medical records.
Photographs will be taken only of the area specified in your referral made via your GP. The diagnostic photographs will then be uploaded to our secure image database for the Consultant to view and make a diagnosis.
Please note: This appointment is for Clinical Photography only, you will not be seeing a Dermatology Consultant/Doctor.
The consultant will send a report to you and your GP within 3-4 weeks. This will contain a diagnosis and details of what will happen next.
You may be required to return for repeat photographs in 3-6 months for comparison, asked to attend a Dermatology outpatient appointment or be discharged back to the care of your GP.
When attending your Teledermatology appointment, please do not wear makeup or jewellery in the area that is being photographed. It is also advised to wear clothing that can be easily removed.
