The Pain Service at Aneurin Bevan University Health Board has been running for over 25 years. Since the Covid pandemic, the way in which the Pain Service runs has changed. The Acute Pain Team is Nurse led with support from Consultant Anaesthetists with a special interest in pain. They are hospital based and review patients daily.
The Chronic Pain Team is Consultant led with a multi-disciplinary team (MDT) approach, including Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS), Physiotherapist and Clinical Psychologist. The chronic pain CNSs review in-patients in addition to running outpatient clinics.
The Pain Service works closely with all members of the multi-disciplinary team both in the hospital and community, to provide holistic care and management of an individual's pain.
