It’s been an incredible journey since the launch of our Clinical Trials Unit 2 years ago, and it’s great to look back at the impact that’s been made! From improving key performance to enhancing patient experiences, we are committed to delivering the best standard of research. This year there are over 80 studies taking place in ABUHB with our 400 participants and this work is crucial towards future healthcare.
The team aren’t stopping there and are focused on widening research opportunities across more departments and embedding research into everyday care pathways. Together with our amazing partners, we’re working to ensure our site is known for delivering exceptional, patient-centred research that truly makes a difference.
David Bosanquet, Associate Medical Director of Research and Development said: "The R&D team is a fantastic collection of dynamic individuals who are passionate for improving patients care by enabling access to research for as many people as possible. Our strategy aims to embed research into all areas of the health board, and the department has made significant progress with this over the past two years. It has been rewarding to see our staff develop over this time and go from strength to strength. Research is for everyone. Research is part of every healthcare professionals job - if you are interested in engaging in research in any way, big or small, please do get in touch."
Rachel Doyle, a patient on the department’s LOCI Trial, described the team: “They were right there besides us. They would always pick up the phone to me and check in on me and speak to me about anything I was worried about. I think that one on one support I had from them was invaluable. I really appreciate all the support and the help and the constant check ins that I had. You know, it really did mean a lot throughout that journey, so thank you.”
What is the team’s next big step? Launching the Research Champions Programme! This exciting initiative will empower staff and volunteers to become voices for research, making it more inclusive and accessible—especially for underrepresented groups.
Stay tuned for what’s next as we continue to enhance our healthcare research.
