Update - Gwent-wide IT Outage Now Resolved

Thursday 27th April 2023 - 16:00 UPDATE

The IT issues we have been experiencing, which were beyond our control, have been resolved and our services are now back online.

Enhanced monitoring of the situation and regular communication with our partners remains in place as we verify the stability of network services over the coming days.

We are grateful for the hard work of our staff and partners to implement a number of actions to stabilise the system in order to continue safe care for our patients.

We would like to thank our staff and patients for their understanding and support.

Wednesday 26th April 2023 - 11:00 UPDATE

We have experienced sustained pressure over the past two days as a result of national IT outages outside of our control, which disrupted the operation of our clinical and operational systems.

Although the situation seems to have improved this morning, we are continuing to work with Digital Health and Care Wales and our Internet provider to ensure this internet connectivity issue is fully resolved.

Our hospitals remain very busy due to backlogs caused by the disruption to IT systems and we are advising local people to think carefully about the NHS services they choose – and in particular to avoid visiting the Emergency Department at The Grange University Hospital unless absolutely necessary.

We would like to reassure people that although there have been some delays, the safety of our patients has not been compromised by the IT issues and our amazing NHS staff have gone above and beyond to keep services running as smoothly as possible.

We would like to thank our staff and patients for their patience and support.

Tuesday 25th April 2023 - 20:00 UPDATE

The Health Board remains under sustained pressure this evening as a result of two days of national IT outages outside of our control.

We are continuing to work with Digital Health and Care Wales and our Internet provider to resolve this issue.

Our Emergency Department at The Grange University Hospital is extremely busy and due to the IT systems issues there are long waits to see a doctor, particularly in cases where a patient’s condition isn’t life threatening.

We need to ask for your support and to only attend The Grange University Hospital if it is life threatening or you have a serious injury.

If you need medical help, please think carefully about the services you choose. If you are unwell and unsure what to do, you can check your symptoms at https://bit.ly/3NGMs9Q or call NHS 111.

Only attend the Emergency Department if you have a life-threatening illness or serious injury, such as:

• Severe breathing difficulties

• Severe pain or bleeding

• Chest pain or a suspected stroke

• Serious trauma injuries (eg. from a car crash)

Please help us to make our service safer by sharing this information with friends and family.

Thank you for your patience and support.

Monday 24th April 2023 - 23:30 UPDATE

We are pleased to report that the Internet connectivity issues we were experiencing today (24th April 2023) have now been resolved and our services are now operating as normal across the Health Board.

Please be assured that the wellbeing and safety of our patients were not affected due to this incident and no patient records were lost.

We would like to thank our NHS staff for working hard to implement contingency plans and we are also grateful to those who liaised with our Internet supplier to rectify the issue as quickly as possible. Many of our staff went above and beyond to ensure patients continued to receive an excellent standard of care, some working overtime and late into the night.

Thank you for your support.

Monday 24th April 2023 - 18:10 UPDATE

We are continuing to experience an issue with our Internet connectivity, which is affecting our services across the Health Board. We are working with the current supplier to resolve this issue.

We are urging the public to consider alternative options to visiting our hospitals this evening as the IT issue is causing very long waits for patients.

Thank you once again for your patience and support - we will continue to update you throughout the evening.

Monday 24th April 2023 - 16:30

Please be aware that there are currently IT issues across the Gwent area, which is now unfortunately causing some IT outages across several of our sites. We are working to rectify this issue as soon as possible and we ask you to kindly bear with us.

Please only use our services if you really need to as services will get busier as staff work to overcome IT problems.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.
