The Gwent Public Health Team, in partnership with Plan UK, Dragons RFC, the Welsh Government Sound Campaign, and the regional Gwent Violence Against Women, Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence (VAWDASV) team, were proud to host renowned TEDx speaker, bestselling author, and founder of the global movement She Is Not Your Rehab, Matt Brown.
Matt Brown Said:
“This movement is about more than just raising awareness—it’s about taking ownership of our healing, challenging the cycles we’ve inherited, and choosing to do the courageous work of becoming safe spaces for healing and connection. Gwent showed up with heart, honesty, and a real readiness for change. I’m humbled to have shared space with this community.”
Matt Brown, an internationally acclaimed advocate for breaking cycles of domestic abuse, self-worth, and healing, spoke at Dragons RFC in Newport to an audience of approximately 200 attendees as well as visiting a number of local schools. His message of empowerment and transformation aims to inspire individuals, families, and communities to address the deep-rooted impacts of domestic abuse and create pathways toward healing.
This work forms part of the collaborative effort of the Gwent Public Health Team, the regional Gwent VAWDASV team and others in ending domestic abuse in Gwent.
Prof Tracy Daszkiewicz, Director of Public Health for Gwent Said:
Matt Brown’s visit to Gwent is a powerful and meaningful step in our shared mission to tackle violence against women and girls, domestic abuse, and sexual violence across Gwent. His message of anti-violence focuses on breaking cycles of trauma and abuse by encouraging safe, healthy relationships—an approach that perfectly aligns with our goal of preventing harm before it happens.
Men and boys have a crucial role in ending violence, and we must recognise that the same harmful ideas about masculinity that contribute to violence against women also negatively impact men and boys. By creating a safe space for open conversations, guided by an experienced and respected leader like Matt, we hope to spark real change and inspire positive action in our communities.
