A Hive of Activity to Commemorate #NHS75

A Hive of Activity to Commemorate #NHS75

To mark 75 amazing years of the NHS, there have been a wide range of celebrations, events and activities across Gwent. Take a look at some of the activities below:

Uniforms Across the Decades

Lots of staff across our hospitals celebrated by dressing up in traditional uniforms from throughout the past 75 years of our wonderful NHS - we even had some matrons at Nevill Hall Hospital!

Tea Parties with Patients, Staff and Relatives

A number of wards across our hospitals celebrated the day by hosting tea parties and themed afternoons with patients, staff and relatives. It's clear to see that fun was definitely had by all!

Our Oldest and Youngest Residents

Say hello to one of our youngest patients… ‘little miss no name’ as she’s currently known - born this morning at The Grange University Hospital on the 75th birthday of the NHS.

Mum, Natalie, said “We’ve had the most amazing care here, everyone has been fantastic and they don’t get praised enough.”

Thank you also to local resident, Beverley Davies, for knitting these beautiful hats for babies born today to commemorate #NHS75.

103 year old Owen Filer, from Cwmbran, lives near The Grange University Hospital and visited the site each week when it was being built to view its progress. He is a huge supporter of the NHS and is also very proud of his granddaughter Sarah who works at the hospital.

Visiting a Key Part of Local NHS Heritage

Our Chief Executive, Nicole Prygodzicz visited the site of the new Bevan Well-being Centre in Tredegar, which is currently being built on the site of the old Tredegar General Hospital. As the hometown of NHS Founder, Aneurin Bevan, Tredegar is an essential part of NHS history and of our heritage as the Health Board that was named after him.

Nicola also had the opportunity to meet two staff members, Sian and Ceri, who grew up in the area with their mother, who was also a Ward Sister in Tredegar.

Read more about Sian and Ceri's stories below.

Children's Fun Day at The Grange University Hospital

Past and present patients at The Grange University Hospital's Children's Ward were treated to a fun-filled day in the Children's Sensory Garden, where the team put on a tea party, face painting, balloon modelling, therapy dogs, and even a visit from Peppa Pig and George!

It was lovely to see so many children and their families enjoying the celebrations, and some former patients and former staff members also popped along for a reunion.
