In an initiative to increase awareness of type 1 diabetes, Rewrite Peter's Story resource boxes are being distributed to GP Practices across Wales. This campaign aims to highlight the importance of early detection, especially in children.
The resource boxes contain a wealth of printed educational materials and tools designed to raise awareness of the symptoms of type 1 diabetes (The 4 T’s - toilet, tired, thirsty, thinner). The initiative is a collaborative effort between Diabetes UK Cymru and Peter Baldwin’s family.
Peter Baldwin, 13, from Cardiff, died in January 2015 suddenly and unexpectedly as a result of type 1 diabetes. Peter’s mum Beth and family have campaigned tirelessly since 2015 to raise awareness about type 1 diabetes. Peter’s mum said, “Our mission is to make everyone aware of the symptoms of type 1, so other families don’t have to go through the heartbreak of losing a child.”
The distribution of the boxes coincides with World Diabetes Day on the 14th November.
