The 'Woodshed' Receive Shipping Container Donated by Laing O'Rourke

Friday 11th September 2020

On Thursday 10th September, Laing O’Rourke, the main contractors for The Grange University Hospital, donated a shipping container to the 'Woodshed', based at St. Cadoc’s Hospital.

The Woodshed is a Mental Health Woodwork Therapy project for Mental Health patients at the hospital.

Since COVID-19 and Social Distancing measures have been introduced, the use of the Woodshed has been limited. Becky, Deputy Ward Manager on Pillmawr Ward says, “This container will make a big difference to the patients, as it’ll allow more of them to use it, they love coming here and it has a positive impact on the patients.”

Peter Sharpe, Project Leader for Laing O’Rourke, says “Laing O’Rourke is the principal contractor delivering the new £350m Grange University Hospital in Cwmbran. We have been working closely with Aneurin Bevan University Health Board, supporting various charities during the 3 years of the build period. More recently, we have donated a storage container for use by the Growing Spaces Charity, to assist them in recycling wood and old furniture. Once we’ve repainted the container and established it in place, it will then be used to assist supporting the rehabilitation of patients at St Cadoc’s hospital.”
